1 Dead, 8 Injured In Auto Crash On Third Mainland Bridge

A fatal accident on the third mainland bridge in Lagos on Monday claimed the life of one person with eight others severely injured.

It was gathered that the accident occurred due to two Mazda commercial buses having a head-on-collision on the bridge near Ilaje towards Iyana-Oworonsoki.

Eyewitnesses said that the two buses had a high-speed chase which began at Adeniji Adele axis.

” The drivers were driving recklessly from Adeniji Adele in a high-speed chase”, said the Eyewitnesses

Confirming the incident, the Spokesman for Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement, said officers arrived swiftly on the scene, rescuing eight passengers who had sustained serious injuries, including multiple fractures.

Taofiq added ” The injured were transported to Gbagada General Hospital by Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) for immediate medical attention.

“Police officers from Bariga and Alonge Police Stations provided crucial security and ensured the smooth flow of rescue efforts, maintaining order during the operation”.
LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety, urging motorists to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly. The agency also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured a swift recovery.
In a separate incident earlier in the day, a Honda CRV (license plate AKD 743 HV) overturned near the Unilag waterfront, also on the Third Mainland Bridge. The crash, attributed to excessive speeding, did not result in any casualties.
Also, LASTMA officers quickly cleared the scene to prevent further traffic disruptions.
Meanwhile,  LASTMA emphasized the need for motorists to exercise caution and obey traffic regulations to avoid further tragedies on Lagos roads.
