NCC Boss Emphasises Role Of Corporate Governance In Nigeria’s Telecoms Growth

 

 

In a significant at the 2024 Annual Corporate Governance Conference held recently in Lagos October 10, 2024, Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) emphasized the crucial role of corporate governance in driving the impressive growth Nigeria’s telecommunications sector.

Maida articulated that the industry’s remarkable expansion is not only transforming the sector but also yielding positive effects on the broader Nigerian economy.

He attributed this success to the NCC’s unwavering commitment to upholding stringent corporate governance standards.

During his presentation, titled “Corporate Survival and Sustainability—The New Face of Governance in the Nigerian Telecoms Sector,” Dr. Maida reflected on the telecom industry’s evolution and its substantial contribution to the nation’s Gross Product (GDP).

He asserted effective governance in the sector transcends mere compliance; it has become essential for survival, sustainability, and ongoing growth.

He said, “To thrive, we need governance frameworks that not only ensure compliance but also promote innovation, trust, and long-term value.

“At the Nigerian Communications Commission, we see good corporate governance as more than a checklist; it must be a culture ingrained at every level of an organization.

“In today’s fast-evolving world, corporate governance isn’t just a regulatory requirement—it’s the foundation of the telecom industry’s success and sustainability.

“As leaders, it’s our responsibility to ensure our governance frameworks are robust, adaptable, and in tune with the changing global landscape,” he said.

The conference served as a platform for industry leaders and to discuss the importance of governance in fostering a robust and resilient telecommunications landscape in Nigeria.
