PDP Reconciliation Committee To Brief NWC On Findings Today
As the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scheduled to meet on Thursday, the Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola-led Reconciliation Committee is expected to brief the Party’s National Working Committee about its findings and possible recommendations today (Tuesday).
This is coming ahead of a crucial meeting of the PDP Governors Forum (PDP-GF) scheduled for today.
The Reconciliation Committee met at the National Executive Committee Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Abuja, yesterday, to fine-tune its report, preparatory to its presentation to the Amb. Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee, NWC, which in turn, will review and present same to the NEC for ratification.
Speaking to reporters shortly after meeting the PDP National Assembly caucus for over three hours, Oyinlola said: “As part of our assignment as members of the national reconciliation committee, we scheduled to meet members of the National Assembly so we can share in their experiences as to what is causing the dwindling fortunes of our party politically.
“We’ve had useful discussions with them and I think there are suggestions that we have our party to unite and remain formidable. That’s what has happened this evening (yesterday).
“What are the things that will make your party stand strong that you come up with? One obvious thing is that for any party to be able to go into battle and win, it must be united. And that’s what we are going for.”
On the forthcoming Ondo governorship election, he said: “What we are putting into place is the national reconciliation committee, which has had its tour of the South-West and the Ondo election came up prominently and we are putting our strategies into place.
“Whom are you reconciling? Anybody that has any quarrel with anybody in the party are the ones we are reconciling.’’
Asked if there were recommendations for the suspension of some members, Oyinlola said “as far as we are concerned, I will take that one as rumours because we are meeting with the national working committee tomorrow (today). So after tomorrow, then you can ask me.”
In related a development, the PDP-GF’s meeting is expected to deliberate on the possibility of the NEC meeting holding as scheduled or a new date, as well as a possible agenda for the meeting.
